China finds Asia's largest undersea gold deposit near Shandong

China has discovered Asia's largest undersea gold deposit near Laizhou, Shandong, pushing the region’s proven reserves beyond 3,900 tonnes, around 26% of China’s total. Shandong already hosts over 3,500 tonnes on the Jiaodong Peninsula. China produced 377 tonnes of gold last year and spent nearly 450 billion yuan on exploration since 2021.
