Karnataka's Kolar Gold Fields to reopen after 80 years

After nearly 80 years, India is reviving the historic Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka. The state has approved surface mining of 13 gold-rich tailings dumps across 1,003 acres of the defunct Bharat Gold Mines Ltd site. Using modern techniques like heap leaching, operations are expected to yield up to 750 kg of gold annually.
