The Calcutta High Court has ruled that investments made in a child's name, including fixed deposits, cannot replace monthly maintenance after a divorce or separation. It said both parents share equal responsibility for supporting their child. The court added that maintenance must be based on each parent's income and the child's needs. Investments are meant only for the child's future.
